Debra at work in her studio creating a felt part for a project the old fashioned way - elbow grease, water and soap.

Other Tools of the Trade

The Method
Felting is an ancient method of creating warm, sturdy fabric out of animal fiber, primarily wool from sheep. Using moisture, heat and agitation, the act of felting or fulling interlocks the scales of wool fibers into a a thick sheet.

A newer method of felting involves using a barbed needle to punch the fibers into a shape. This dry felting technique is primarily used to create the 3-dimensional critters you see on this site or embelish flat pieces of felt.
